Product description
Wenge is a tropical hardwood native to Central Africa.
The color of the wood is dark brown with lighter veins that darken after surface treatment. Despite its high hardness, it may seem that it is difficult to process, but in fact it is not. Wood is very popular in the furniture industry.
The heartwood is dark brown with dark black veining and alternating dense paler bands of light and darker parenchymatous tissue. The combination of light stripes with dark brown wood gives Wenge an extremely attractive look. The color differences are not particularly pronounced and do not have a disturbing effect. Therefore, this wood is one of the top choices of interior designers, not only for floors, but also for furniture. However, wenge does not show color uniformity immediately after felling, but undergoes rather large color changes from yellowish when freshly cut to dark brown to black when aged. This process takes several months. There are barely visible fine scratches on the surface that look like they were caressed by the claws of a small beast.
The wood is characterized by mostly straight fibers, irregular coarse texture, high porosity and low gloss. It belongs to the second leading dark wood and is increasingly used as a substitute for ebony. The attractive drawing, together with the luxurious chocolate brown color, is a visual feast for the eyes.
