Martin Sporka - Polar Whittler 80

1) I used needle files to adjust the holes in the brass washers so that they could be put on the knife thorn. I also prepared four pads from fiber 0.8 mm thick with an addition around the perimeter. I shortened the block to the handle made of Finnish birch to the required length.

2) I drilled a hole in the block and sawed the hole for the knife thorn. It is ideal if you can drill a hole according to the shape of the mandrel into a "V" and with a small addition. However, it does not matter if the mandrel in the handle is looser, the space is then filled with epoxy glue.

3) I cut off the excess part of the mandrel with a smaller cutting disc (you can also use an iron saw). I left only a small addition to the length, so 1mm.

4) I rubbed the glued parts with glue and put them on the thorn. I clamped the assembly in a preparation for gluing knife hands and allowed the glue to harden.

After the glue hardened, I roughly sanded the shape of the handle and the protruding part of the mandrel.

The final finishing / rounding of the handle I made the strips of sanding cloth on a knife clamped in a vice. First with a roughness of 80, then a finer 180.

I impregnated the finished handle with linseed oil and polished it with a flannel cloth, polishing the brass parts with metal polishing paste.

In the end, I made a leather quiver case for the knife.
