Product description
Jatoba , also known as "Brazilian cherry" or "diamond cherry", is a very hard wood native to the subtropical forests of South and Central America.
It occurs naturally from southern Mexico, through Panama, Colombia, Venezuela to Peru, Guyana and Brazil, and you can also see it during your vacation on one of the Caribbean islands.
Jatoba is clearly one of the most popular woods imported from South America, the demand for it has not stopped for almost a quarter of a century. The largest exporters include Brazil, Peru and Guyana.
Jatoba is a deciduous tree that grows to a height of 30-45 m with a trunk diameter of around 0.6-1.5 m. It grows very slowly, with some trees living up to 500 years.
The heartwood has a wide range of colors from salmon red to orange-brown when it is freshly cut, which gradually darkens under the influence of sunlight and oxidation to reddish-brown to dark brown, sometimes even taking on a brown-purple hue. However, the color of the heartwood can vary depending on the location and the respective species.
